What is the WE ARE VR meetup?

Source: https://www.wearevrjozi.org/ (scraped 2026-07-13; refreshed 2026-08-18)

Status: In-person meetup nights may be offline at times — check /#meetup and the shared calendar. Chat communities (WhatsApp, Signal, Keet) remain open. Archive holds past seasons.

It’s the Jozi XR scene’s regular meetup — a place to plug into who’s actually building interesting virtual experiences, locally.

• Started: idea launched 2018; first meetup Thu 28 Feb 2019 at TMRW Gallery
• When: last Thursdays of each month (when nights are live)
• Where: Mix Cocktail Bar, Rosebank, Johannesburg (Jozi)
• Time: from 18:00 CAT

Recurring XR community gatherings focused on VR/AR/MR demos, talks, and networking. Hosted in galleries and creative hubs (e.g. TMRW Gallery and MIX in Rosebank), often themed per season/episode (e.g. Season 4, last Thursdays at 18:00).

Format

Short introduction, a couple of curated talks or panels, live demos you can try, then free-form mingling. Tone is “community lab” rather than corporate expo — more nerdy show-and-tell than a trade show.
